john "The true story"

Actually, I was never shot down over the Atlantic, or anywhere else, although a lot of guys tried to do it. I did have to ditch my B-26 half way between Brazil and the Azores and was in a life raft for about two weeks, but that was because both engines quit, probably because the Germans in Brazil had surared the gas. All ended happily when a Canadian destroyer happened by and gave us a ride; the attempts to shoot me down over Europe followed. But I survived to make clear ice cubes for Sally and Edith on Christmas 1964. Mike and I had the muddy water cubes but we didn't mind. Merry Christmas to all, wherever you are.
