September 15/ Personality tests

 This I didn’t know, but you can take a personality test on the Internet.  Sort of a mini Myers- Briggs test.  The first test I took was a test by choosing colors.  That said sex could solve some of my problems. I discarded that test. But I then took two different tests that came out saying I was a INFJ, which is apparently rare.  An Intuitive, Introvert, Feeling, Judging person.  I was a counselor, could be a writer, as writing is easier than talking.   In a group I am on the perimeter, which puzzled me. If I am at a meeting, I know that is not true, but at a party, maybe.   Further it said I wanted a few close friends, rather than a large circle of acquaintances.  

When I read about myself, I was rather flabbergasted.  Some of the material applied, a few seemed not to apply.  But I also thought perhaps some facts could be filling in some of the missing pieces of my personality puzzle.  I phoned my sister for her to deny the stated characteristics.  Over the phone, I could tell she was laughing so hard that she was falling off her chair.  She said, “Of course that is you, don’t you know that?”.

I said, “ I guess that is why I don’t have many friends, because I want them to come out and play on my terms.”  . . . I am supposed to be a devoted parent.  

If you are bored, or housebound, it has rained straight for three weeks, or need a little personality consulting, you might try this yourself.  Just Google free psychological tests.  Even the 2 minute color test had a few positive pointers.    

September 14/ Dear Radish

Dear Radish,

I just went to a funeral, and I was dressed totally inappropriately.  I wore regular clothes because I was going to work in the kitchen afterwards.  Shall I go out and buy new clothes?

Dear Sally, 

Of course you should go out and buy new clothes.  What better justification for new clothes than to be dressed properly to send a friend off.  Be sure to get some for the winter season and the summer season.   Dear Heart, thank you for working in the kitchen. Stars in your crown. Someone has to do it.  But girl, get yourself some fancy clothes, and when you go to the kitchen, put on two aprons to cover yourself .   This is a great opportunity to also buy clean  and pretty aprons.

September 13/ Funeral for me?

 You know your age by how many funerals you go to.  And I am starting to go a lot more often.  In fact even Mr. Radish agreed I should go out and buy some clothes for funerals.   

There are currently two types of funeral/memorials.   By far the most common is of the kind where a few hymns are sung, and there are prayers, and the minister gives a talk about either the person, or death itself.   At this service generally  many people stand up and speak about the person a lot of these speakers break down in tears, and the audience communally helps them push them through their grief and to speak.  One person  mentions the time dear Dottie had too many drinks and fell in the swimming pool saying, “Tits off to you” . These days people do not want to be sad, and everything that is said is very cheerful.   We go home celebrating Dottie’s life.

I went to the other kind of service this weekend.  I went to a Requiem Mass.  

The mass was unapologetically a solemn Eucharist, and meant to be that way.  We prayed that God take our friend, keep her, and love her,  that she may see all the glory of heaven.  Death was the end of life on earth, but we are open to what lies ahead.  We took the bread and the wine, and 250 strong we prayed for her.  While the priest cleaned up the altar, the organist played some old Sunday school songs,  one of which was Jesus loves me from the thirties, and Somewhere over the Rainbow finished the service, and we all got up and went to a very merry reception.  

For myself I think I want my friends and family praying for God to accept, and find favor with me;  I need all the help I can get. Then I hope there is a rocking good wake.  My daughter has started asking what kind of a service I would like.  I am taking that program from the above service, and tagging it for my daughter and say, this it.   I can take my funeral off my plate.

September 10/Freedom Friday and Blogging class

 My blogging class is now I think over three hundred people.   They are from all over the world and with a few exceptions are English speaking.  I am trying every day to look at some of the blogs, although as you can imagine this is quite a feat. I  have homework, much of it writing, which for me is a long process.   Naturally in the process other hot blogs come to light, and I have to take a look at them.   As far as I can tell the youngest classmate is in high school and I could be the oldest.  I would say that a third of the class is not from the United States.  There is a huge Aussie contingency.   

When you take an e-class, you keep up with one another through a forum or Facebook.These can become unwieldy.  You can barely find yourself.  One thing I have noticed with these classes is the drop out rate is huge. This class is $120.00 dollars so I think more people will stay with it, especially those looking for work.  The community builds.     I once met a woman who said that her husband set her up with a quilting shop so she could buy herself some friends.  E-classes can work that way.   And why not?  Just studying the community could keep you entertained.  There are majority of young women,35 and under.  

I will blog again when my homework is done.  

For Americans here, get out your flags for tomorrow.  Do  you own a US Constitution? No.  Buy one.   

September 9/ Radishes What to Do?

Yesterday I was taking photos of radishes for a banner that I am going to replace this month.   This is just out of the camera taken at the grocery store.  I bought  bunches of radishes at the store and brought them home to photograph.This was much harder than I thought it was going to be.  The radishes dried out so fast and then looked dried.  I also had to hunt for the ones with good photogenic leaves.  

I have all these radishes that I had to find some use for the radishes.  Here are a few uses:

Radish and cream cheese sandwiches, or radish and butter sandwiches.  If butter, the bread needs to be good. Rye is good, but that is rarely at my house. Sauteed radishes, which makes an easy side dish.  I have not tried roasted radishes, but my produce clerk said she likes them that way and tomorrow I am going to serve it with pork chops.   I do like radish salad with vinaigrette , and sometimes I add small diced Gruyeres.

September 8 / I think I can, maybe, possibly grand-parenting.

My three girls have wanted me to be a good grandmother.  They given me ever opportunity to do so, which I appreciate.  For example, at Christmas they sometimes give me the best gift idea for them on the Christmas list, like a Seattle soccer shirt, as opposed to the last on the list which  is under shorts.   They arrange a good time for me to show up at soccer games.  They give me and my husband the chairs at the best part of the circle when we open Christmas presents.   My girls are good about the kids treating me well, such as good manners and obeying me as they would obey their parents. In their families, my word is equal to their mothers.  The girls sort of place me in settings where I will look my best.  

But I am me.   I still tell the kids to get their pile of crap off the floor,  and no we are not going listen to your music, and  I scream at them, “What is it about be home at four o’clock, you do not understand?

September 7/ Lunches

If you are someone making lunches for others, check out this link Another Lunch . Just looking how the woman packages lunch boxes is an inspiration.   

I need a blog for senior lunches.   We eat lunch out all the time.  Seniors need to get out of the house and it seems lunch is it.  We would be happy to switch to movies which are the same price or cheaper, but the movie market is for teens.  One has to wonder with the number of seniors in this country, why more movies are not targeted for them. I think I know this answer.   

Eating lunches at home means one more clean up.  One more what to have.  I might get it together, but then my husband says, "Come on, lets go out."

 

September 6/ Labor Day

 This flag was on the casket of my husband's grandfather who was in Cuba during the Spanish American war.   It has 48 stars, one of which is patched.   Luckily we hung it yesterday as the sun was shinning, and today it is raining. It is fragile so I do not hang it in the rain.   It has never been cleaned and I am afraid do it.

Labor Day is the end of summer.  It is to define the end of holidaying. Sounds like a day of mourning to me.  Also if you are in uniform, you no longer wear white. Sounds like it is time of undershirts and Christmas decorations.

September 5/ Radish's comments

I am taking an e-course in blogging in the hopes I can improve this blog.  .  This is my new Avatar.  These radishes are not as jolly  some I have had in the photos previously.  The reason for this is the greens were soggy and falling apart and then the clerk mushed them.  But maybe they portray a more serious radish blog.  This is a month long class and only the beginning of it is about the mechanics.  I am supposed to become a social networker in the process of improving the blog.  

I realize I am not a good commenter myself, but see if you can force yourself to give some ideas of what you do, and what you do not like.  Mr. Radish, you can just give  me your comments over cocktails. Another idea could be to write to [email protected], if you hesitate about going public.
